Lactation Consultant & Breastfeeding
Support, along with emotional and mental self care strategies for mothers.

Presented by Ruth o’Donovan & Janine Pinkham of Waitaha Primary Health and Erin Manning from PND Canterbury.

Ruth will cover some specific breastfeeding information including
-breastfeeding in the early weeks
-help with latching
-learn babies hunger cues
-assurance on how you know you are making enough milk
-going back to work
-weaning when the time is right
-where to find support

Lactation consultants available for those who are seeking help by appointment (Waitaha Primary Health/ Plunket/ Private services)

Janine will cover and overview of the Mother4Mother programme (coming to North Canterbury early 2020), what it would look like to be a Peer Supporter in Hurunui, what the Peer Supporter training involves.

Erin Manning from PND Canterbury will also attend to provide information regarding emotional and mental wellbeing of mothers and talk about some self care strategies.

All mums, pregnant ladies, community/health services welcome.

This is a free event that is child friendly and a light morning tea provided.

Cheviot Hills challenge

Date  November 24, 2019Details  In 2008 the Cheviot Hills Challenge was run for the first time. This event is set in the beautiful Cheviot Hills Reserve where the remains of the Cheviot Hills Manson House can be found.

In 2016 this event has transformed into the Cheviot Hills RunRide, to consist of two separate events, a run and a ride. And in 2018, a change back to the Cheviot Hills Challenge format means that we are once again concentrating on just the ride.
This is a beautiful day out for all the family, not just for the bike-riding enthusiast!

"Regeneration" movie community screening

An evening with Jake Bailey

Date  December 19, 2019Details  We are excited to bring inspirational speaker Jake Bailey to Amberley as a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House South Island and Westpac NZ Rescue Helicopter.
Jake draws on his on experience of cancer to speak on topics such as resilience in the face of adversity, leadership during hardship, mindset shift, survivorship, best medical practices from a consumer perspective, mental health, inspiration and motivation, and much more. He shares his story in detail, and how it has made him a better, happier person- and how others can integrate these lessons into their own lives, without facing the adversity he had to in order to learn them.

Although Jake draws on his experience with cancer to demonstrate the lessons he has learnt, these messages are about far more than cancer and are applicable to all people of all backgrounds and all ages, who have faced all variety of adversity, and certainly not just cancer. Jakes presentations are positively uplifting and inspiring, and help many to reconcile their own challenges.

The Big Dig

Children aged to 13 buy a wristband which entitles them to dig in the allocated area according to their age. They can then dig for 1 token which can be exchanged for a prize. Only 1 prize per wristband. Entry is $5. Event start at 1 pm.
There will also be sausages, ice-creams, cold drinks and coffee, not to mention a bouncy castle, playground, tennis courts, entertainment and a car-boot sale.
Take a stroll through the beach settlement, wander through the Holiday Park to check out the best spots to camp or buy some takeaways for tea from the Takeaway caravan located at the Leithfield Beach Store.
